Travel Insurance, Medical Evacuation and Field Rescue

Three kinds of protection, explained plainly, and where to buy each. Two of the three are required on every SPT trip.

What you need, and why

We travel into remote mountains, high altitude, and places a long way from a hospital. Most of the time nothing goes wrong. But a cancelled flight, a stomach bug at 4,570 m/15,000 ft, a twisted ankle a day’s drive from the nearest clinic, or a border that closes overnight are all real, and they are expensive to face alone.

A few hundred dollars of the right coverage protects you from tens of thousands in cost, and in the rare serious case it gets help to you fast.

Below is the plain difference between the three kinds of protection, which two we require, and a direct link to buy each one.

Required on every SPT departure

Travel insurance — protects your money and covers medical bills abroad.

Medical evacuation coverage — gets you home if you are hospitalized far from it.

Field rescue — reaches you where a road does not. Not required, but it is the coverage that matters most in the places we go. Strongly recommended on remote, high-altitude routes

These are two separate products. Some travel insurance plans include an evacuation provision, but it depends entirely on which plan you buy, so a travel insurance policy does not automatically satisfy the second requirement. Check your policy, and if it does not clearly cover evacuation to the hospital of your choice, buy that separately.

You will send us proof of both before you depart.

How to get covered

Three Steps

Choose what you need.

Travel insurance and medical evacuation are both required. For our remote, high-altitude routes, add field rescue — or choose Global Rescue, which covers evacuation and field rescue together.

Click the provider's button.

It takes you straight to their site. No account with us, no middle step.

Buy directly from the provider.

You set it up with them, on their terms. Keep your confirmation — you will send it to us before you depart.

Send us proof of travel insurance and medical evacuation coverage before your departure. It takes a minute and it means that if something does go wrong out there, the help you need is already arranged. That is worth more than anything else you pack.
A note on transparency: Sergio Photo Tours is an authorized affiliate of all three providers and may earn a commission when you buy through these links — at no extra cost to you. We recommend them because we use and trust them, not because of the commission. You always purchase directly from the provider, on their site, on their terms.
